Smile, you’re on camera.

Elijah Jackson provides us with a glimpse inside the mind of a tortured artist with this latest visual drop, “smile, you’re on camera”. This conceptual art piece tells a story of struggling with the mundane and overall realizing the parts of life and it’s norms that could threaten creativity.

What was the inspiration behind this project?

“The inspiration/goal behind this project was to create something similar and yet understanding in a sense for a wide ray of audience to feel and take in visually.”

When did you first get the idea ?

“ I first got the idea from when I was on the clock working at my job. It's a pretty mindless job so while my body is on autopilot my mind was creating. I thought how cool it would be if I made a short film about a person who mindlessly works without having anything to do with the outside world. Until he finally “wakes up.”

When you thought of this passion piece, was it a slow burn idea where it slowly developed more and more then had everything in place? Or did you immediately know how you wanted this to look and to feel and how long to be ?

“ The base of the idea was set and stone. The formatting of the idea though was changing overtime when thinking of all the avenues I can take this film. Also pre production was a bit of a task but it was manageable for me.”

Your director of photography Joe is a constant collaborating partner with you, you’ve once again teamed up with him and created this great work of art. What’s it like working together and explain how you two come together whenever working on projects ?

Working with him is nothing short but amazing. He's an incredible cinematographer and director in his own right. Working with him is like having a family in your corner who is trying to support you in any way they can whether it's knowledge or just presence. We happen to mesh really well together naturally. I would usually come up with an idea and give Joe the details on it and he would dial down the logistics on what it takes to get it done. The more we work together the better we’ve become.

Joseph Forbin played a hand as director of photography for “Smile, you’re on camera”

Knowing how much your projects mean to you and how well they’re usually received what inspires your next idea, what goals do you set whenever looking back at projects ?

What inspires my next idea or whenever I look back on my projects, is what emotions I want to portray and finding/touching on what my heart wants to express. I would Utilize that desire to make something timeless.
